Response to advertising campaigns

The publics response to advertising campaigns is very important on different levels on one level the company for whom the advertising camapaign is functioning obvioulsy wants a postive response which they hope will lead to sales of products. On another level any intial good response can lead to a chain reaction for example word of mouth spreading or a video campaign going virule. A poor response on any of these levels can be damaging for sales.
The screenshot that i have uploaded onto my blogger is the daily mail and it is on the topic of the puma advertising campaign backfireing.
This is a form of qualitative research as it shows peoples thoughts about a campaign adverting and this type of research can benfit it because someones opinon could be an idea on the campaign which could be helpful. An example of responses to advertising campaigns can be the one about Puma's forever faster advert which features the worlds famous sports stars and how it back fires and gets twitter uses to get involved onto the subject.

response to news coverage

The research on response to news coverage is qualitative research because it has people givng their  thoughts on certain topic of the news coverage. It can be helpful with a lot of people giving their opinons about the news because some people will responed in a different way to someonelse. A good example of news coverage is people compaining about the royal baby and they are not happy as there has been to much newscoverage on the subject. Another good example that I have found is on the BBC news website where there are a number of complaints about certain things on the BBC like tv shows and it explains why people are complaing about it. The website has a response from the BBC about these compalints and they explain why they have put these things on the BBC to show that they are not doing it to cause people to complain.

The screen shot that i have above me is a response to a news coverage about the BBC and people are compaing about a news report that happeaned on BBC One at the 11th of september. The news compaint was about a question that was asked to Alex Salmond who is the scottish first minister but he did not give an answer which caused people to complain about this. The BBC had a response to this complaint about the news coverage by saying that there was in fact two questions asked to Alex Salmond and his answer was lengthy. This someimes shows that the viewers are not alway right and can be abit quick to judge when complaining about a news coverage.

attitudes to media products

This is a type of research is is qualitative as it has peoples thoughts on media products and their attitudes towards it. The audience can give a positive or negative view on media products and would not want it presented on the media if they think it is not very good.

The screenshot below is an example of attitudes to media product as it has the viewers attitudes to product placement and they have a very negative view on product placement. The audience got their first taste of product placement but their attitudes towards was not good or bad. From the research that i have found on the attitudes to product placement it shows that the younger audience are with the idea of product placement but the older audience are completely against the idea and they both have their attitudes towards this media product on why it is good and why it is bad. Product placement means that the TV in the UK will be more like the tv in the US and that is why some people in the UK are against the idea to do this.

Fanzine websites

A fanzine website is something thaat the fans enjoy and gve their opinons on the website based on aceratain topic that they are fans of. It is qualitative research because there aeblogs used and blogs have a persons opinon and thoughts. An example of a fanzine website can be CFCnet as it is a website for chelsea fans as they can give their opinons on certain topics like the last match that chelsea have played or the next match that chelsea are going to play and the fans can give their opinon on how chelsea will win. They can also comment on each player on how well or not so well they performed during the match.

Game review 2

Underneth this text is an example of qualitative research of game reviews. It is a youtube video presented by IGN and they are reviewing the game alien. This is a good example of game review because it shows the adience through the gameplay of the game and the commentry on it that it is a good game for people who enjoy palying survial horror games and that it is the type of game for them.

youtube game review

Game review 1

There is a lot of ways to find out reviews on games you can find websites based on new games coming out or a game that you want to get and can find reviews on it. This is qualitative research as you get opinion based facts on the games to say if they are worth buying and playing. An example of a website that you can find out reviews on games can be YouTube as it gives you the footage of the game play as-well as its certain features in the game.

Film reviews

Film reviews are a form of qualitive research bcause it gives you peoples thoughs about ceratin films and i they are worth watching or not. It helps people who are unsure about a movie that they want to watch and find out if the movie is going to be good as people who have watched it can give a review so that peole can see their reviews and decide if they want to see the film.
                     http://www.mrqe.com/

This is a link to a website where you can find out a movie that you want to watch and there is a selection of reviews so there is a range of different opions on the film that you would want to watch and it can help you confirm if you want to watch it if most of the reviws say that it was good or a terrible movie.

An example of this can be on the new film that is in cinemas now. The name of this film is called fury and it stars a famous actor brad Pitt and it has him portray a solider during World War 2. The reiews that I have seen state that this is a film that fans of this type of genre will enjoy But for people who are looking for an emotional story line then they will not find it in this movie because it is all action.

The box office figure gathers the quantitative data by having each movie on a list which shows which movie is doing well with the most views and better rated with them. Each new movie that comes out and has a successful hit will be on the box office and the more likes it gets it will overtake other movies on the table. Also, the table shows the number of cinemas that shows what type of movie. It also shows the number of cinemas and what movies they show.  Each box office figure is published weekley so it will show how it has improved to the box office in the previous week and it will show the information on how it has improved in the release of the latest box office figure.

Hits on a website

There are a lot of hits on YouTube as 1 billion users visit YouTube. There is at least 100 hours of videos uploaded every minute on YouTube. This website is a quantitative research as it gives the information about YouTube and all you need to know about it. The website has a lot of popular videos that people start to subscribe and this gets peoples popularity up and then will be known by a lot of people. over 6 billion videos are viewed each month. In the jimmy fallon show (see video below) he has a section called Ew and one of them has only a little view with a famous American football player, but there is another video of EW with Taylor swift and this has more few as she is more famous and well known.

circulation figures

The circulation figures are very useful because it can help you see what newspapers have been read the most. This is quantitative research because it is gathering data of the circulation survey of the newspapers with it showing what newspapers are popular and have been read the most.

Programme ratings

This Is a T.V rating of all the programmes with the ratings and what networks that they are on. This is quantities research as it is showing the facts about the TV and the ratings from the bottom to the top so people will know what is the popular show that is running. This is also helpful to directors as they can see if their shows are doing well or not doing so well so they will know if the should put changes in. This is measurable data.

CDs and DVSs

The research of this is quantitive data as it shows you a summary of the details of the cd tracks that are on the table. The table shows the lists of the artists and the titles of their album. The list of the cd table has 10 artists as it has Michal Jackson at the top to Abba at the bottom to show which artist has been more successful and it tells you with how much sales they got in the US and UK.

Protecting your rights

  Protecting your rights and earnings

  1.     Why do you think music artists and other people working in the media are concerned about digital reproduction?

Music artist will be concerned about this as they can lose a lot of money as the licensing deal is struck with PRS and you tube with the royalty payments for online content. This will also cause a lot of concerns because people with the internet can now download the music and then share it. From doing this it creates problems for the people who are working to produce these songs, so it would be people such as songwriters, musicians and agents. With their music being downloaded it will be difficult for them to see there earnings and it will make them loss money from this. It is not just only music but films and TV series can be downloaded and that will also cause people working in those industries to loss a lot of earnings from people not paying to see the movies they have produced.

2. Why is a website such as this a help to organisations like the PRS?

The organisation PRS is a big help because it represents the rights for a lot of music in the UK. They will license other organisation  to play music and they will protect each piece of copyright and this is a benefit for the PSR as they have a lot of other music organisations to help represent and ensure that their copyrights are protected and will not be used by other music organisation.

3. What might happen if sites like YouTube are forced to pay too much money to show digital media content on their websites?

Sites like YouTube is a big use of the media as it has thousands of people uploading their videos about a lot of topics and uploading it to YouTube for people to watch and subscribe to them. But if the company of YouTube will have to keep paying loads of amounts of money to keep YouTube up and running then to ensure that they do not loss all their money they will have to stop YouTube or if they still want to continue to pay then it will lead the company to becoming bankrupt and will cause a lot of people to lose their jobs. This will effect music industries as well because if YouTube is not working then people will not be able to see the music videos that have been produced. Another option that the company of YouTube could do to keep it running is to start charging people to upload there videos and this will cause people to lose their earnings with things like music videos people could have to pay a lot to make sure that it is on the YouTube site.

RAJAR presentation

media research organisations

                                         Radio joint audience research

Method and type of data.

The R.A.J.A.R is an organisation that stands for radio joint audience research. what this organisation does is measures radio audiences in the UK.  the reason why the word joint is in the name is because it is owned by both the BBC and the radio centre. there is about 310 radio stations on the survey. the organisation uses dairy as a method to measure radio audience, the data that they collect is the industry wide currency for planning, buying and selling advertising on commercial radio. in July 2011 RAJAR awarded RSMB a sound extension to the radio industry research contract, which will
run until the end of 2014. Diary is an effective method  for RAJAR because it measures  live radio listening in the uk and recruits roughly 100,000 respondents per year.

Data collection

RAJAR is responsible for setting the research specification, the awarding of the research contracts to third party suppliers and the overall quality control, management and delivery of the service. The day to day operations are overseen by the chief executive and research director. RAJAR collect data by means of a seven day self completion diary. The paper diary is customised at placement. Each respondent is asked to sort through a set off cards with the names of all the radio stations in the area and invited to select all the stations which they might litsen to or hear in various situations. This process provides a station repertoire for the selected individual which is then entered in the diary by the interviewer, using station name labels. All paper diaries are collected personally by interviewers at the end of the seven days.

Data processing

Scanning: All questionnaires and diaries are processed using optical scanning technology.Following this, the scanned data undergoes a series of checking procedures including a computer program designed to test quality by checking for any logical inconsistencies.

Write in: write in listeining is where a respondent writes in the name of a station for which there is no label, is attributed to BBC Local or local commercial as applicable. If the station cannot be identified it is coded as other litsening.

Editing: listening records for digital only service are cross referenced agasint platform ownership and acess claims collected from the recruitment questionnaire.

Using the data

RAJAR is most concerned that there should be no misuse or misrepresentation of information and if necessary, may restrict publication rights. Misuse includes the publication or other dissemination of results prior to the embargo date and time specified for the quarterly summary of radio listening. The publication of data provided for internal use only for example monthly results, data for opt out services or sub area analyses.

Where to find data

topline data such as weekly hours and weekly reach per station is free of charge and published every quater on this website. anymore detailed information such as results by show, by time band, by demographics,is only accessible to RAJAR subscribers. There are various levels of subscription depending on the requested level of details, For complete flexiability of analysis you will also need a bureau licence for example accsess to RAJAR licensed data analysis software.

 Data presented to clients

Measurement of audiences for all radio services is countinous throughout 50 week of the year but excluding the christmas and new year holiday peroid. Results are published on a quarterly basis, but based on the appropriate minimum survey peroid, according to each stations survey area adult population and the minimum reporting sample required. The RAJAR presents their data to clients by having a table with the information about about digital services. RAJAR currently surveys over 300 indivudul stations broadcasting in the UK,of which 55 belong to the BBC. These stations vary greatly in size, from national to local, with the smallest being surveyed on an area of 50,000 adults. only ofcom llicensed stations can request to be measured by RAJAR.

Why it is important to clients

RAJAR estimates listenership of over 300 radio stations who listens, where, when and how, it is the trading currency for radio broadcasters,it is used by the media agencies to plan and buy advertising in radio airtime, it is used by radio owners to pitch for business, sell adverising airtime and monitor programmes performance. Both agencies and media owners use the sam sorce of information in their transactions this provides an open transprent basis for conducting business.

The organisation back in 1981; the company helps by providing the users with what they want so this will include viewing figures.

The data that they gather is information to see what shows the compile graphs based on that. Another method that they use to gather information is bringing in questionnaires so that they know what the viewers like to watch on the channels.

The organisation gathers data by studying 5,000 homes so that they can see which individuals watch what shows and then they use graphs based on that. They use questionnaires to also find out what channels people like to watch.

BARB's method is very relevant as it allows a constant flow of data. To make sure that people have what they set up questionnaires to help them get a better idea. They can compile their data in just a short time.

All the data from BARB is very important because the commercial television use the results to determine their own strategies for commissioning, probating and for scheduling based on the BARB's figures televisions make key decisions about whether programmes will be repeated, whether series will get new runs or be discontinued and they gain an understanding of which programmes are doing well. There are other viewers which re critics, TV reviewers so they can give information to the audience about each series and other channels.

BARB helps with television as they earn a lot of profit for commercials with each series coming out they present it so that all viewers will see these commercials and this could help to get the viewing rating up and more profits.
